Architecture For Decentralised Attention Economies

  • identities (open - recorded on the blockchain, public-key)
  • content addressing (IPFS)
  • content hosting (IPFS)
  • attention transactions history (blockchain-based transactions)
  • content filtering heuristics (open - shared on the blockchain, IPFS hosted)
  • interfaces (open - shared on the blockchain, IPFS hosted)
  • attention <-> capital exchanges / ad platforms (open, transparent, smart-contracts)

In this model users interact with each other by making ‘attention transactions’ that are permanently recorded on the blockchain.

Attention currency is abundant, meaning that each user can create new transactions with each new block. In the same way, they can create new likes on Facebook by interacting with content.

The trail of ‘attention transactions’ for each identity is public to everyone and immutable. Identities are pseudonymous and users can decide whether to use their real name and one identity or decide to have several identities/personas in the system.

The system consists of two separate layers:

  • the objective layer - Open Data Commons - is the blockchain+storage where the objective truth of what happened is recorded, regular user does not interface directly with this layer, it’s ‘invisible’ to the user but ‘visible’ to scanning robots, machine learning algorithms etc.

  • the subjective layer - The Interface - is the ‘attention economy’ layer where the interpretation of the objective layer is presented to the user, users achieve consensus by adopting the same set of ‘interfaces’ , in other words - adopting the same interpretation on the underlying objective, blockchain state
